Australian beef hits quota limits; 55% tariff imposed

According to China’s Ministry of Commerce, imports of beef from Australia hit the 2026 quota as of June 18, 2026. A 55% tariff on Australian beef imports went into effect as of midnight on June 20. On December 31, 2025, the ministry released Announcement No. 87 of 2025 which, included country-specific import quotas for beef. Australia’s 2026 quota was 205k tons.
