Home catering fuels food retail sales in China, restaurant service lags: data
Retail sales in China grew 1.7% year on year in December 2021 which is the slowest growth seen this year, and far below the 3.9% growth seen in November.
The restaurant and catering sector fared worse last month, with sales falling 2.2% from December 2020. Retails sales in this sector are only up 0.3% from the pre-pandemic December 2019 levels reflecting the challenges the sector still faces.
